The History of Rockfest
In May 2005, Nathan Endris was just finishing up 8th grade when the Rochester High School hosted a town hall meeting allowing students the opportunity to experience local government in action. During the meeting the head of the Rochester Parks Department was asked what the park board wanted to accomplish in the next few years. One idea that was mentioned was a summer concert for the kids.
Nathan approached the park board with the idea of a Christian rock band as an alternative to a secular act to prevent negative influences such as drugs, alcohol, and more. The park board liked the idea but it never really went anywhere. About a month later, Endris attended a music festival in Michigan. After returning home he decided to put the concert on himself. With $500 from the park board and $500 in donations from local Rochester businesses the first concert was held in August 2005 with 400 to 500 people in attendance.
The event has grown to 25 bands from 15 states performing on two stages this year. The concert has hosted many national and international acts including Stellar Kart, After Edmund, Seventh Time Down, Disciple, Building 429, By The Tree, Seabird, Everyday Sunday, Manic Drive and more.
